This painting was given to the City of Gloucester for its 350 Anniversary by the Gloucester Shire Council, Gloucester, New South Wales, Australia.
The subiect is one of the first buildings constructed in Gloucester, Australia in about 1825. The "Gloucester Bucketts," a range of hills on the west side of the New South Wales town, are in the background.
The "Bucketts" is derived from the Kattang language dialect spoken by the two Aboriginal tribes that had lived in the area, the Worm and Biripi.
"Buckan Buckut" is thought to mean "father of stones looking down on sacred land." The location was likely a ceremonial site for male initiation rites.
