In regard the installation titled "Landing," my design approach refers to the importance of the location of Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. Originally named Ross's Landing, this settlement developed as a connection point to the transit of people, goods, and information that took place on the river. In the early days of Chattanooga, rivers were the highways. The "Landing" artwork is intended to be a sculptural celebration of the event of touchdown or "landing" on the riverbank. In this sculpture, three monumental oar-like elements are connected to a curved steel plane suggestive of a boat hull. The tips of the near-vertical oars make contact with a horizontal convex element at ground level which is symbolic of the riverbank.
