The infinity loop form is also a highly abstracted human figure and incorporated into the sculpture is a middle section suggesting a spine and rib cage. The curve and flow of the 'rib cage' is meant to not only reference a portion of the human figure, but to also provide a visual representation of the Tennessee River itself, as it winds its way through the heart of the City of Chattanooga. The spine portion is symbolic of the 'backbone,' perseverance, and determination necessary for an individual (such as Mr. Lupton or Mr. Murrah), an institution (such as The Lyndhurst Foundation and its key members), or a community (such as the citizens of Chattanooga), to remain focused on their vision with the energy and commitment required to accomplish their goals.
