The intent of the "Atrack" artwork is to acknowledge the importance of the railroad and associated industry of the history of Chattanooga. Rail transportation was vital to this community dating back to the Civil War era. This allowed Chattanooga to become a major center of industry in the South. The artwork uses a reductive vocabulary to suggest the power, motion, dynamism of a railroad engine. A half-round vessel is connected to wheels with assemblies reminiscent of the piston elements of steam engines. The vessel appears to be tipped up on edge as result of the action of the pistons. There is an implied motion that appears to be briefly stopped.
