An artist since childhood, I came to San Francisco to study healthcare and medical information science, but spent spare time in drawing, printmaking, sculpting, studying Japanese shodo brushwork, refining etching techniques at Crown Point Press, and developing sculpting techniques through contacts with the amazing artists and art resources of the San Francisco Bay Area.
I intend my art to be emotionally and intellectually evocative. I like to achieve balance and beauty in unusual ways, such as by combining meticulously deliberate elements with chance configurations, or in using often misunderstood materials such as bamboo and hemp.
I think of art-making as a cognitive-emotional process for exploring and making sense of the world. Observing, touching, sensing shapes, textures, weights, and plasticity: These are how I learn to move in creative partnership with chosen materials toward the evolving endpoint.
