I arrived in San Francisco to study healthcare and medical information science, and spent spare moments in pursuit of art: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting, photography, and more. I fell in love with the San Francisco Bay Area: Its artists and art resources inspired me to explore beyond perceived bounds, and taught me more than I had dreamed possible.
Statement
Art-making is, in my view, a life-long journey of exploring, experimenting, and making sense of the world.
It is not always easy: Facing a blank sheet of paper, a blank canvas, or an unshaped lump of clay often triggers fears, self-doubts, and procrastination.
Overcoming these impediments requires trust -- that creativity will spark, that simply beginning, observing, touching, sensing colors, shapes, textures, weights, and plasticity will lead to a creative partnership with the materials and, ultimately, the evolution of some unique final form.
I find that true for all the art forms I have explored: drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpting, work in new media, and more.
No matter what medium, my underlying aim is to create emotionally evocative, thought-provoking works with elegant, spare, or unusual esthetic resolutions. Ideally, the viewer will find them layered with meaning, inviting and sustaining close, thoughtful inspection, and discovery.
