Ocumichu, Michoacan, Mexico. According to legend, in 1292, a house very mysteriously appeared at the foot of a hill in the Italian town of Loretto. The people were told that it was the “holy house” where Jesus, Mary and Joseph had lived in Nazareth. Having become a shrine in Nazareth, the house suddenly disappeared because pilgrims had become the constant victims of bandits. The legend grew that angels had flown the house over the seas to rest at the foot of the hill of Loretto.
When the same vandalism resumed in Loretto, the house again suddenly was moved on December 10, 1294, where it now rests now on the top of the hill on no structured foundation. It is enclosed in a basilica to Our Lady of Loretto, who is the patron of air travel.
