From an original painting by Hogarth entitled, "The Gate of Calais or O, the Roast Beef of Old England" (1748). Publish'd according to Act of Parliament March 6th 1749. The print, produced from an engraving that was completed in part by Charles Mosley, was published on 6 March 1749, under the title "O The Roast Beef of Old England." A satirical view of the English Gate at Calais, after Hogarth had visited Calais in 1748, lampooning the French for their devotion to fashion and the Roman Catholic Faith.
