Rhomburs film by Franz Werfel. A lobby card for the curious melodrama, Embezzled Heaven, in which an older woman gives her nephew money so that he may attend seminary and become a priest. When she later learns that he has been embezzling this money for different purposes, she travels to Rome to seek forgiveness and has an audience with the Pope. Although the lobby card advertises that this film is from the author of The Song of Bernadette, it did not become a similar classic. The promoters of the film seemed to realize it too, touting the film’s locations and a first-ever appearance by the Pope in a feature film as its major selling points.
