Imp. Bedos & Cie, Paris.
A French poster for the 1933 production Deluge, directed by Felix E. Feist. It presages the Hollywood Apocalypse films of the 1990s and 2000s. The film opens with a quote from Genesis 9:11: “And I shall establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth." It portrays end-of-the-world disasters like unscheduled eclipses of the sun, massive global earthquakes, and destructive tsunamis that destroy much of the United States. The scenes of destruction of New York City were particularly spectacular, and would later be recycled in B movies produced by “Poverty Row” studio Republic Pictures.
