Here the wind-sculpted pine takes its place within the wider landscape — a shoreline of layered granite curving out into still, silvery water, with a smaller windswept island echoing the same shape in the distance. Chris often isolated these trees on canvas, but in this piece he lets us see the whole story: decades of prevailing wind that shaped not just one tree, but the entire character of the shoreline. A quieter, more contemplative companion to “Tree” and “Tree Sculpture.”
