The Pulp Paintings are a series of relief paintings constructed using pigmented paper pulp applied to wooden substrates. Paper pulp has been an essential part of our studio practice for nearly a decade, stemming from a love of paper's tactility, versatility, and accessibility. We create our own paper pulp in the studio, often sourcing recycled paper collected from various sources, including neighboring photography studios' discarded backdrop paper rolls. In this piece, the paper pulp is pigmented before applying it to the armatures. The colors stem from studying moss, lichen, and ground colors on the forest floor, as well as colors from the glow of twilight.
