The excellent Oklahoma songwriter Nellie Clay grew up with Herefords on her family's farm. When she moved back to the Sooner State she decided she needed a cow to grace her newly acquired home, and so commissioned a painting, realizing an actual Hereford, no matter how docile (for they are one of the sweetest-tempered breeds, as well as most toothsome), would simply take up too much space in a prairie-style Oklahoma City bungalow. Concurrently, Gallery North Star had invited me to participate in TILL THE COWS COME HOME, so I painted two of this bovine beauty.
