I purchased a trio of white roses at my favorite local market recently intending to illustrate the color of "white" as not having an absence of color, but a blend of many colors. I painted them as a group of beautiful buds with the promise of opening into a stunning flower. However, as you may know, roses open and change quickly! When this beauty opened I knew I had to paint it as a single rose.
Let me get to the story behind "Trudy's Spirit". When I completed this painting, it immediately brought memories of my own mother. Trudy was 96 years old when she passed away in 2015. This painting illustrates the strengths of all mothers, all women, all daughters. The subtle colors of a white rose represent all the aspects of woman's life. The trials and tribulations that women go through in life are badges of strength and resilience. This rose was strong, sturdy, and only needed a bit of water in a glass to thrive just a bit longer. I saw my mother, Trudy, in this beautiful rose. She was proud of me, and always encouraged me. This rose is Trudy's Spirit. I miss her so much. I dedicate it to her and all mothers.
