One of my 'rescue petunias' series. These flowers were from a plant I got for free in a garden centre as it was not at all well. A few weeks later it rewarded me with a mass of flowers which continued from June to December. The resilience and the loveliness made them special for me and this vibrant series was the eventual result. This variant is both dramatic, technically challenging and yet playful. The single large glowing blossom is an original hand-drawn image that was used in all my 'Two Petunias' series compositions. The playfulness is in the digital brush that I have created to provide the texture on the petals and calyx. Look closely, and you will see that it is made up of multiple repetitions of the same image via a vector brush I crafted using the same original petunia image as input. Something perhaps was on my mind about repetition, identity, and how the flower head always carries the hope of future blossoms inside it.
