"Pandemic Postcard Tower Tartan" transforms private journal sketches from the lockdown period into a structured, architectural composition. Four postcard ‘tiles’ derived from original drawings are arranged to form a rhythmic pattern of colourful stripes and half-stripes. These complex elements are interwoven with vertical and horizontal bands of solid colour—lilac, hot pink, and butterscotch brown—that anchor the composition while allowing glimpses of the underlying imagery to emerge.
The surface retains the tactile quality of the original paper texture, overlaid with precise vector outlines and a subtle bevel that creates a distinct tile effect where each element meets the next. While the bold abstract forms invite the viewer from a distance, closer inspection reveals small drawings and pictures peeping through the solid stripes.
This work explores the tension between restriction and liberation. It speaks to the experience of navigating confinement while seeking light and colour, suggesting that even within imposed structures, moments of creativity and individuality persist.
