A metaphor for ancient goddesses has met its modern version in my art. Blended in my art, you will find images of modern day women and ancient urns of yesterday. I reference ancient Greek - Minoan & Mycenaean vessels found in archeological digs.
Over the years, I have made 3 extensive research trips to the anthropologic sites of Santorni, Greece. Here I studied closely, first hand, their ancient wine containers. The urns were created with a narrow swan neck flowing out of voluminous bodies, clearly mimicking a women’s breasts and nipples. There is no doubt in my mind, that these vessels were a symbolic metaphor for women.
Ancient urns are transformed into humorous painted images that are both half women and half vessel. Painted vessels sing, dance, play their way through life as a metaphor for present day “goddesses”.
Prints of this successful series are now offered on my website. The successful “Vessel Series” from the 2000, encompassed a large body of work exhibited over the years. Mediums of drawing, mono-prints, encaustics, acrylics, are available to buy as prints.
