A metaphor for ancient women has now met its modern version in my art. These painted vessels sing, dance and “boss” their way though life as a metaphor for present day “goddesses.”
Blended in my art works are images of modern day women and ancient urns of yesterday. I reference ancient Greek ~ Minoan and Mycenaean myth, where women were worshiped as goddesses who mysteriously produced babies and mother’s milk.
Today, numerous historic references to vessels holding wine and special oils are found in museums around the world. These functioning vessels are adorned with breasts, hands and swallow necks as they emulate women as goddesses.
Red lips, jeweled hands, ballet slippers, sprout out of ancient urns creating humorous painted images that are both half women and half vessel.
