A Bride's Moment In Time
- Carolyn Kramer
“The Bride's Moment in Time” represents a moment of reflection, as if the bride was an image in a her own dream. A vision saved in her memory as a time her life changed forever.
The physical transformation of a single woman to a married woman has through generations been represented by the bride’s wedding dress and veil. At some point during the wedding day there is a moment of reflection experienced by the bride.
The bride is shown from the back, as she gazes at her wedding veil contemplating both her day ahead and future life.
The stained surface canvas is a combination of light, whimsical washes, collage and richly rubbed colors which achieve a luminous effect. Layers of transparent color on color, textures of string imprints define the contrasts of figure or add atmosphere to a background. Evident throughout these bride paintings is a concern for engaging color nuances and sensuous textures.
This is a narrative comment on contemporary women and the ceremony of marriage.
The issue of female gender is explored in my bride images. Although this BRIDE series was created and exhibited years ago, the topic is still current, maybe more so today
