Hand built ceramic sockeye salmon sculpture in spawning colours, red body, green head, carved black stoneware base. The flanks are worked with small salmon in low relief.
The relief salmon are carved and pressed into the flanks while the clay is leather-hard, then colour is laid in with underglaze and drawn back with oxide wash so the shapes read as shadow rather than pattern. The head keeps its mottling. Belly left pale. The base is black clay, unglazed. Stoneware, oxide wash, underglaze, inks.
