This is a nice big abstract painting I made in 2020. I was really pushing my pandemic basement studio to its limits. This is pretty much as big as a painting can get and still make it up the stairs and out the door. My son was still baby and I had him in one of those harnesses that lets you wear the baby as you go around doing other things, strapped right there to the front of me while I'm going around making these weird marks on the canvas.
I painted this while it was on raw, un-stretched canvas. Basically I just unrolled a bunch of canvas over a cluster of three IKEA desks pushed up against each other and went to town on it. After the paint had all been applied to the canvas, I built a stretcher and stretched the canvas over it. So you can imagine me there, bending over the thing with an infant gazing out from in front of my chest. There is probably some drool in there, too.
