This is part of a series of nine small paintings that I made all at the same time in the following sizes: six 11 x 8.5 inches on textured polypropylene (Yupo), two 14 x 11 inches on gessobord, and one 40 x 26 inches on textured polypropylene.
These pieces are pretty little tangles of possible space. I've been going large in my work recently, so I wanted to see what would happen if I pulled it back to a smaller format, and so there is something a little more refined here, perhaps a little more careful, but still spontaneous and free. I used a neat trick here, a little painting life hack: smaller brushes for smaller spaces.
