This is a painting from my first residency at Arthouse Gărâna in Gărâna, Romania in 2011. It is a triptych consisting of three 50 x 50cm canvases arranged in a vertical orientation. The image has a weightless quality to it, as if the environment is sub-aquatic or perhaps interstellar. There are clear brush strokes in the background of the piece in neutral earthy greens, browns, and greys, and the foreground is mostly composed of black lines that bulge along their lengths. Some of these bulges are filled in with concentric layerings of white and black paint. In between and sometimes on top of these are pools of poured paint in dark, saturated hues, like bits of seaweed drifting in the current or ion-clouds from supernovae drifting through space.
