This is a messy medium sized abstract painting on textured polypropylene. The initial delicate watercolor washes and the silky white of the textured polypropylene substrate are totally obliterated by layer after layer of brushed on and poured paint with some layers of marker drawing barely visible (there are somer circles in the lower left and upper right corners).
I had gotten feedback in a crit prior to making this painting regarding how many of my recent paintings don't "go all the way to the edge." This is something I'm aware of and that I engage with intentionally. I like the framing of a painting where you can see the substrate around the edges, especially paintings that have a depth to them. So here I challenged myself to go to the edges and I did for the first few layers and then I didn't for the last few layers. As I write this, I'm kind of down on this painting, but it's coming around to me. Or I'm coming around to it. I still don't know if it is any good, but I can say this: it does exist, so I'm putting it up here in the archive.
