I created this piece during the early months of the global pandemic in 2020. Each panel represents one of the many conflicting emotions I felt during that time. Bright, colorful panels reflect the unexpected family time we spent riding bikes or playing games, jagged black and white shapes are the fear I felt upon the sudden loss of a high school classmate, bright stripes mixed with more muted colors are the guilts I experienced when I had not yet experienced the illness or economic difficulties faced by so many, and gray panels are the hopelessness that began to set in as the weeks turned to months and I realized this would not be a short-term crisis.
Like all of my work, it is an improvisational design...I followed no pattern, but allowed the shapes to come together organically as the piece grew.
