Kelly Russo practices expressing gentle contrast between growth and preservation - of memory, moments, artifacts, skills, nature. Her works exalt paused subjects to an altar, idyllic, and often contrasted with motion and evolution using imperfect methods, regardless of the medium. Her earlier works invoke dynamic and bold efforts at expressing these relationships using flora of regional south Louisiana. Her work came to eventually be dominated by regional birds. The subjects of her work can be viewed as muses: feminine, powerful, ephemeral figures exhibiting continual strength, risking emerging off the canvas. She is currently pushing past the canvas herself.
