David Flores was born in Southern Louisiana in 1985. The swamps and marshlands he traversed on hunting expeditions in his youth has impacted in his work in a significant manner. His mixed media acrylic paintings contain explorations of cyclical nature, one’s connection to ancestors, the power of tradition, and articulation of these subjects through symbols. His works are an amalgam of thick acrylic paint, textured surfaces, objects from nature (pressed leaves, branches, petals, even animal skins), photographs, and books. These objects are woven together like the threads of heritage that connect him to the familial tradition of hunting and trapping. This is the frame from which he attempts to articulate his understanding; the landscape where he explores the nature of ideas and reality.
