If you appreciate a good glass of single malt scotch on occasion, or if your eye is drawn to simplicity, this painting may resonate with you. Though simple in composition, the dark background, reflected in both the glass and the bottle, provides a striking contrast to the objects in the scene. The shape of the bottle and the details on the label give you all the clues necessary to identify the drink. Finally, the wood table top with it's warm hues provides a nice balance between cool and warm temperatures.
While it might be simple in composition, there were definitely challenges in finishing this painting. None compared to the difficulty of getting a photo with minimal glare on that dark background. A mere 150+ photos later and I finally have one that suits me! Alas, my north facing windows are great for painting (and you can actually see them in the reflections in the top of the bottle!) but not so much for photographing. Not to worry, I have a plan! This calls for a dark room of sorts. I am thinking the closet will do!
