It likely won't surprise you to know this painting was a Valentine's inspiration. I had this gorgeous heart-shaped bottle (a thoughtful gift over 25 years ago) with those wisps of red-black and gold floatie things just begging to be painted. Then I thought about the veil-like ribbon wrapped around the top whispering "imagine painting me!" Finally, the pearls looked like the perfect accessory to pull it all together. When I added the back lighting there was no doubt this carefully curated scene would be the next one I would paint!
The challenges:
The challenge with the bottle was mostly a matter of drawing it perfectly symmetrical so it truly was heart-shaped. It was harder than I expected!!
Painting the see-through ribbon ended up being very similar to painting glass. While there were tricky aspects, it was mostly fun watching it evolve.
The pearls were a matter of getting the shape of the strand and the highlights right. There were several do-overs as I attempted to capture the gentle curves! And then there was the clasp to consider.
And here you have it! All this, my friends, is why I paint. I do so love a challenge!
Thank you so much for spending a few minutes with me and my painting. It delights me to know you are all here and going along for the ride!
Warm regards,
Barbara
