This piece was painted plein air during Golden Hour along a marshy spot in the Delaware River Gap and represents the state of Delaware in my "Love Letter to America" collection. For many years, we drove through the Gap to visit family in New England each summer. These beautiful words are an excerpt from John O'Donohue's poem Beannacht (Blessing) and served as the inspiration for this subtle and beautiful Nocturne.
When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
