The Story Behind the Painting
In a heard of solid black Angus cattle my eye is always drawn to the odd chocolate brown coloured cow or calf. This little steer was one such calf standing amongst a see of black calves at a branding in Saskatchewan. I was drawn to this image not only for his unique hide but also for the incredible light shadows casted by the afternoon sun. The brown/black hide of the calf glistened white in the sunlight, and I knew I had to paint him.
