- Pollinator Habitats I: Butterfly Totems - 2022
- 3D printed lattice and concrete, painted steel
- 72.5 x 10 in
These 3D printed sculptures are one of four sets of "pollinator habitats" installed in Thornton in 2021.
From the artist:
"The inspiration behind this artwork and its placement near a playground was that I wanted to create something elegant, safe, and eye catching that would hopefully draw children near to the artwork. The artwork can be place closely together, or spread apart, offering safe refuge for nesting insects. The vision of butterflies nestled within the safe confines of these abstracted “vases” to emerge in view of children was exciting. Hopefully viewers will see butterflies, pupa, cocoons, and caterpillars all around the location, and all with wildflowers creating an urban meadow. I really want this artwork to allow for close-up inspection by children."
