Learning from the River
- Mycelium and Bacterial Cellulose
- Josette Ghiseline
MSP Terminal 1, Gate F4
Minnesota Artist Initiative Grant recipient Josette Ghiseline grows her sculptures with mycelium and bacterial cellulose – two versatile biopolymers that exhibit vast potential as alternatives to plastics. Motivated by her research into the pervasive existence of microplastics in the Mississippi River, Josette seeks to illuminate these alternative materials as new forms of intervention. She expresses their utility through recognizable forms like cinder blocks and steps, as well as abstract forms suggestive of futuristic construction materials.
Learning from the River is a project of hope which celebrates creativity, invention, and intervention. For more information, visit www.materialmusings.com.
Josette Ghiseline is a fiscal year 2019 recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
