One of Irving Penn’s most famous works, featuring Mary Jane Russell. It first appeared in the April 1951 edition of “Vogue”.
The hat, lipstick, cigarette and pearl earring all cry out for attention but it is the nail polish that is being highlighted here. This is typical of a Russell shoot. She was a favorite of Penn's despite her diminutive stature and her hands often became the focus of his shots.
This is a genuine vintage photogravure, printed in 1959. Archivally mounted on 100% acid-free 11" x 14" board and matted to 16"x20" in a stunning vintage modern baroque champagne gold wooden frame.
