Since the source was a black and white photograph, I took time considering color choices to create a contemporary painting that told a story from years gone by. Joining shapes across objects into a single shape created a unity that helped convey the connection between the boy and the pigeons he cared for. The coop is just hinted at by revealing bits of the chicken wire, downplaying the environment and focusing on the interaction of the boy and the bird.
