Like so many of my paintings, I photographed them several years ago but kept thinking about them because I knew I wanted to paint them. They were deep in conversation waiting for a parade to start. Although their hats didn't have feathers it felt like they should so the hats changed and feathers appeared. The feathers then inspired the title.
