"Dublin, The Five Lamps" is painted on cotton canvas with acrylic.
I have been making both abstract and figurative paintings, although quite a number of them have a historical origin, this work called "Dublin, The Five Lamps" is an abstract work with some realism in the background. The underlying layer is roughly applied, layers of color and a few strokes of yellow and orange were added and some scraps of 1939 magazine adds were glued on, another wash applied and subsequently scraped, rubbed, or treated with alcohol splatter using the emotions I was feeling at the time. Subsequently I applied a few layers of transparent greens and various purples, using a negative technique, recreating, out of the chaos, a tranquil environment for myself resulting in an imaginary of abstract flowers with The Five Lamps and a Dublin Bus as background.
The painting is executed on Belle Arte medium grain cotton canvas.
