In Wonderstruck, Annie Wood, a mid-career L.A. artist who has exhibited internationally, presents a series of artworks that revel in the awe, absurdity, and resilience of being human. Her figures are not idealized, they are radiant in their strangeness, sovereign in their presence, and alive with layers of story. Some cradle elephants, others wear crowns, some sit boldly in thrones of color and texture, all of them inhabiting dreamscapes where humor and vulnerability coexist.
Woodβs mixed-media process, combining paint, collage, mosaic, and bold mark-making, mirrors the layered nature of identity itself. Each figure embodies both strength and curiosity, inviting viewers to embrace complexity, to wonder, and to delight in the unexpected.
Wood's work has been recognized on international stages in Venice Italy with her solo show, "Beautiful Imperfections." The art mannequins in this series first appeared in her solo exhibition Pardon Me While I Blaze Some Trails at The Mainstay Gallery and her piece, "Me and My Pet Something or Other" was a curator's pick in Women United Art Magazine (Summer 2025).
