this painting has had many lives.
years ago it began as this is not a casting couch.
a casting director friend donated a box of old actor headshots and résumés. a few actor friends donated theirs too. i added some of my own, photos of myself on set, vintage hollywood photographs from the 1930s, and started painting.
i never stopped working on it. but something wasn't working. for a long time i couldn't even look at it. i'd turn it to the wall. i couldn't solve the problem of this painting, so eventually i painted over the whole thing.
another painting emerged. i liked it. for a few months. but that one didn't survive either.
this went on for years. until now.
now, i painted over the entire thing, again, and it became you got the part!
somewhere under this painting are headshots, résumés, old hollywood photographs, another painting, and another painting under that.
layers and layers of story.
and they all live on in one canvas like a memory.
