acrylic paint and ink, sumi ink, charcoal, markers, fabric on unstretched canvas, mounted, ready to hang
(floats off the wall)
When I was a kid, I loved those reusable toy cut-outs, the ones you could lift up and place anywhere (What was that toy? Starts with the letter C.) Anyhow, I donβt remember instructions or goals but I rememer the Scooby Doo one was my fav and I remember the joy of choosing where a figure went, moving it again when it didnβt feel right.
This piece comes from that same instinct. I painted the figure, then I cut her out, mounted her on a foam backing and a type of fabric paper that I found in Italy. It was part of lantern that was falling apart and now itβs art.
This art object hangs on the wall like a painting but I hope she feels more like a presence. Someone you notice. Someone who notices you back. Unless the second part is too creepy, in which case, never mind, I just hope she makes you feel good.
