For this piece I chose to work on linen on canvas. I used several layers to create texture and depth. I wanted to incorporate my love of printmaking so I drew a cityscape into a block and carved it, inked it, and used it in the background.
I also used acrylic paint, inks, artist crayons, pens, charcoal, gold leaf, oil pastels, oil sticks and oil paint. And some collage, including a page from a French book I found at Hogan Hero Star, Robert Clary's estate sale in Beverly Hills.
Oh To Be Self-Actualized in an Orange Dress is an energetic convergence of the abstract and the representational, inviting the viewer to interpret the relationship between the figure and its surrounding, seemingly discordant space.
