The Italian collage translates into the title. I'm lucky enough to spend a month and half in Italy with my Italian husband each summer and learning Italian has turned out to be a lifelong learning experience. (My neurodiverse brain has not been terribly cooperative. Still, I keep showing up!)
I worked on my blend of portraiture and abstract elements, embracing both traditional techniques and modern.
The figures dark, prominent eyes draw in the viewer, creating not just an encounter but an engagement. I used rich textures and colors to add elements of intrigue to the overall composition. The flurry of colors and wayward brush strokes give a sense of movement, vitality, and depth creating contrast with the subject's relaxed, casual pose, conveying her dynamic nature.
My use of thick layers of paint aim to capture and reflect light in interesting ways, giving the work a life-like quality that naturally attracts the eye.
