Text in English:
Anne Wölk's pencil drawing shows the glowing heart of Centaurus A (NGC 5128), one of the most peculiar galaxies known. NGC 5128 is the brightest source within a larger group of galaxies in the constellation Centaurus. The active galactic core is hidden by a spectacular band of dust, with an extension of the radio source of approx. 2 mills. Light years. It is one of the apparently most significant objects that we can observe in the sky. Centaurus A is a giant elliptical galaxy that is currently being incorporated into a small spiral galaxy. NGC 5128 is particularly energetic and has an active black hole in the center, devouring a large amount of matter. The attracted matter heats up when it whirls in and hurls part of the gas masses back into space in the form of gigantic "jets." How exactly such jets form themselves and spread is so far little known.
