Proceeds of the sale of this painting will be donated to Captain Paul Watson Foundation, who has dedicated his life to conservation of the oceans and especially to ending the slaughter of whales. He was recently (2025) released from custody (4 months) in Greenland (governed by Denmark) because of a Japanese warrant for his arrest. His extradition to Japan most surely would have resulted in severe punishment as Captain Watson's ships (Whale Wars) thwarted the efforts of the Japanese whaling vessels who in spite of an international ban, continue to hunt whales for "research."
Deep, dramatic jewel-toned colors, the orange flecks still visible in this piece are the original color of the fabric, which was a transfer of my painting "Orange" (#2008-03) to polyester. Created by soaking polyester fabric in latex paint, draping and scrunching over a gallery wrapped canvas. Franz Kline used this ultramarine color in much of his Abstract Expressionist work and it is also of course the color of the deep ocean. I had fun splashing bright colors on top - they represent the flora, fauna and creatures of the deep.
