Part of a bigger collection exploring the themes of transition, being in a period of flux, and stepping into a new sense of self while processing the past.
This piece in particular was inspired by the song Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth by The Dandy Warhols. I got to see them perform live for the first time within the first month of moving to Austin. I have been a fan of theirs since I was 12 years old and it was really special getting to see them play.
The song (even though it is about The Brian Jonestown Massacre being heroine addicts) resonated with me and I was listening to it a lot while making this painting. The themes of disillusionment, wit, and defiance mirrors how I’ve felt navigating work, the job market, ambition, and ego-driven environments. I'm inspired by the ability to reclaiming power through humor, color, mark making, and self definition.
