This painting was created over several sessions throughout 2020 but I didn’t show it publicly until 2022. During the height of lockdown during the pandemic, I spent a lot of time painting. This piece in particular allowed me to work really big and process a lot during this time. I would often spend hours listening to live stream DJ sessions from artists like Washed Out and my friend Dan Simmons, while working on this and thinking about how I was dealing with isolation. This painting to me represents so much of the role my art practice serves as a way for me to process what I am experiencing in life.
I titled the piece after the song “Lady Grinning Soul” by David Bowie because the connection I have had with this song and my creative process since I started making art in 2009.
