0_ Transmutaciones de un Diario

2022-2025

Transmutations of a Diary
is a series of 20 works in which I transform a deeply personal object — my own diary — into art. What began as pages filled with words during a time of loss and transition slowly became a visual language of color, gesture, and resilience.

Over the course of more than two years, I returned to this notebook, rereading, underlining, and intervening in its pages. Each sheet was re-imagined through layers of mixed media — acrylics, inks, washes, collage, kraft paper — until it no longer functioned as a diary, but as an autonomous work, holding both memory and transformation. The written word became a graphic element: at times erased, at times emphasized, always present as an intimate trace.

This process unfolded alongside journeys, displacements, and a return to the mountains of Venezuela where I grew up. There, surrounded by the landscape of my childhood, I reconnected with my roots and wove fragments of an old anatomy book into the work — as if dissecting my own story to recompose it anew.

The series as a whole is both a map and a mirror: each piece stands alone as an expression of an inner moment, while together they reveal a larger narrative of fragmentation, healing, and renewal. Like a kintsugi of paper, these works celebrate the possibility of repair — honoring scars, transformations, and the hidden beauty in the act of healing.

1.1_Nothing and Everything 1

2016-2019

A series that dives into the act of creation as an autonomous territory, untouched by conscious representation. The works emerge as traces of an introspective process, where gesture is both intention and outcome. A meditation on making as a form of being.____

1.2_Nothing and Everything 2

2018 -2024

An organic continuation of the initial impulse, where the works unfold like organisms in constant transformation. Matter, line, and form become primal languages—witnesses to a search that resists fixed outcomes and embraces the present as the only certainty.____

2.1_I Am_ 1

2011–2013

A germinal project where medium, form, and meaning intertwine as both inquiry and experiment. These five early mixed media works—encaustic with ink drawing on wax—form a preliminary field of exploration into the construction of identity through gesture and material. The tactile quality of the surfaces reinforces a sense of transition. Through the depiction of the feminine figure, the series proposes an exploratory self-portrait: neither strictly real nor entirely dreamlike.____

2.2_I Am_ 2

2014-2015

collaborative series of 11 pieces that proposes the idea for exposing the self through identity labels. Each participant selects a trait, a name, an “ego,” and the artists transforms it into a visual sign. By stripping identities of their private anchoring, the project explores tensions between individuality and the collective._____

2.3_I Am 3

This new body of work builds upon the foundation of "I Am," but with a collaborative twist. I use rich, layered encaustic colors and mixed media like gold and silver leaf to create a dynamic and flexible tapestry of identity. I'm letting go of my own preconceptions, allowing participants to imbue the work with their own meaning. The result is a reflection of the ever-changing nature of the self.

2.4_ SOY (Work in Progress)

2020

Series that explores identity through bonds, affective memory, and displacement.
Each piece is a fragment of an intimate narrative, where the line becomes a sensitive cartography of shared vulnerability and the sense of belonging. Still in process, the series remains open, reflecting the ongoing nature of becoming and the search for one’s own self.

4_Place

2011-2015

Six pieces that unfold broken maps and liquid territories, this series reveals an intimate geography where the contours of the city dissolve into pigment, memory, and open-ended experience. An invisible energy—mapping the city as a living, vibrant, and unstable entity. Amid these reimagined landscapes, the artist confronts the ongoing search for a sense of place and its invisible echoes of energy. This series does not simply present altered maps—it offers constellations of identity, possible territories, and spaces where being and belonging are acts of continuous negotiation.____

5.3_BotanINK WAX

2010-2014

Early abstract encaustic works that explore the tension between center and periphery. Orange hues, metallic sheen, and tactile density create a gravitational field where the central point gathers and radiates surrounding energy.

5.5_BotanINK LIQUID

2010-2015

An exploration of the circle’s geometry as a primordial form. Each piece carries the sensation of matter in motion—pigments diffusing like water, metals melting into light. These works reveal the cyclical pulse that runs through nature and human experience, offering a delicate synthesis between the organic and the abstract.____

5.6_ BotanINK: Most Living Things

6_Commissions

Throughout her career, the artist has taken on a range of commissions in both public and private spaces, each marking meaningful moments in her creative path. These experiences have expanded her practice, allowing her to explore new dimensions of expression and build connections with diverse audiences and environments.
Public commissions, in particular, have offered opportunities to integrate her work into community settings—bringing art into everyday life and encouraging moments of reflection, curiosity, and connection. At the same time, private projects have opened space for more intimate and experimental approaches, deepening her visual and symbolic language and anchoring her presence in the contemporary art landscape.

This dual approach—moving between public visibility and personal exploration—reflects Andreina's ongoing commitment to versatility, transformation, and the evolving role of art in community.  Her most notable commission Mapping Connection , Oakland Mural

7_Installations

Throughout her career, Andreina Dávila has created a series of informal and experimental installations that have been pivotal to her creative evolution.
These projects opened space for new forms of expression and meaningful connections with diverse contexts and audiences.
A key moment came in 2016, when she presented the immersive installation Mis Memorias as part of the Día de los Muertos exhibition co-curated by René Yañez and organized by SOMArts in San Francisco.
The setting offered a rare opportunity to engage directly with the public and to experiment with movement, light, memory, and the fleeting nature of art.
Marked by their ephemeral and participatory character, these installations have been essential to the development of her distinctive visual language, where audience interaction and the use of unconventional materials and formats play a central role._____

8_ Large-Scale Works & Public Art

Scale is more than size—it is presence, resonance, and shared experience.
My large-scale projects are gestures of connection: linking people to place, memory to environment, art to everyday life.

This dual approach—moving between public visibility and personal exploration—reflects my ongoing commitment to versatility, transformation, and the evolving role of art in community. On my most recent large-scale commission, Mapping Connection, a private Oakland-area mural, these ideas come together in a sweeping cartography of memory. Designed from custom maps, printed on MDF panels, and hand-painted with shifting layers of color and texture, the piece transforms the Bay Area’s geography into a living record of stories and belonging—a reminder that every landscape holds the marks of those who inhabit it._____

Fauna by Eelos

Eelos is a collaborative project by Bay Area–based, Venezuelan-born artists Andreina Dávila and Ytaelena López. The name comes from the Greek concept Kalos Kalathos—beauty with purpose—and echoes the Spanish word hilos(threads). Together, these meanings reflect their vision of interconnectedness, where every element is essential and one plus one becomes many.

The artists share migration as a lived experience. In Spanish, the verb to be divides into estar (to be in a place) and ser (to be as essence). Their work plays with this duality: estamos San Francisco—we are in this city—and somos San Francisco—we are of it. Through layered paintings, they explore belonging as something that emerges only after becoming.

The Eelos process is built on trust, respect, and communication. Each artist works in turn on the same piece, setting aside ego to allow a single, evolving identity to surface. This open exchange invites transformation, revealing new connections between identity, place, and the creative act itself.
