If you love sour candy, this painting is right up your alley. I was inspired by a previous painting I did titled "Pocket Change". The composition was exactly the same with different props. "Pocket Change" had money and coins on a red velvet table cloth in front of a dark green money themed wall paper. As a partner to that piece, I created Candy; replacing cash with sour candy streamers and coins with chocolate gold foiled coins. Both pieces are still life paintings that contrast ordinary everyday objects with opulent backdrops to provoke gratitude for the ordinary.
For this painting I composed the image, drew it by hand and spent 2 months painting it in thin layers of oil paint. I also learned a new technique to create the marbled background which involved about 5-6 layers of paint and many rough brushes and sponges. This painting is varnished to protect it from sun and dirt and to give it a shiny finish.
