MessageWhile not generally perceived as beautiful, the industrial scenes found in Hamilton (Ontario) can be captivating if one takes the time to appreciate the intrinsic beauty as elusive plumes of steam race across the sky, retreating from the mighty monuments of industry. This collection of paintings aspires to have viewers take a more imaginative look as they mingle the majestic industrial complexes with resplendent colors and lively organic forms.
The ever-changing steam plumes sometimes dissipate almost immediately, and other times they linger until it’s not clear if one is seeing plume trails or actual clouds. These steam-spewing pipe-laden cathedrals of industry are monuments to complexity with perplexing organizational purpose. Part of what makes these structures so interesting is the mystery of the intricacy. While it may be interesting to know where pipes go and why, it is perhaps more fun to wonder and imagine. The captivation factor of the industrial buildings is further enhanced by the colorful architecture of the buildings, which is often brutal in scale with strange angles and catwalk-like structures strewn all around.
