Original Monotypes

A monotype is a one-of-a-kind image created by applying paint, printing ink, charcoal, and artist pastels directly onto the surface of a flat metal, glass, or gelatin plate.

After adding layers and texture, the image is then transferred by pressing the paper onto the inked plate before the last layer dries. Each print is unique because the entire image is transferred, and the plate cannot be reused for another print.
